Questions and Answers.
I
have never been on a narrowboat before. Do I need any
previous experience?
Previous
experience is not needed. Our boats are extremely easy to handle and a full
handover with tuition is provided. Mary Gray staff are
proud of the quality of their handovers with tuition available from an RYA
inland waterways approved instructor. We are keen supporters of the considerate
boaters scheme and would urge all hirers and
prospective hirers to visit their web using the link below
What's
included in my hire fee?
Both boats come fully
equipped, with cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, washing up liquid,
surface cleaner, cloths and t- towels, bath and hand towels, colour LCD television, (two on Lizzie May) DVD player,
radio, coal burning stove, with coal, kindling and fire lighters. Gas, (for the
galley cooker) soap, shower gel, bathroom cleaner, and toilet paper. Boats are
supplied with a full tank of diesel included in the price, this should be
sufficient for a two week cruise. Also included is all
bedding (see below) and books and maps to help you enjoy your cruise. The price
you see is the price you pay. There are no hidden extra's.
Will I have to fill with water or empty
the toilets?
Water should be topped up daily using the water points
found along the canal. On a one week cruise a pump out of the toilet tank
should not be necessary. We offer a discount of 15% for the second week of a
two week booking and 30% for the third week of a three week booking or longer
and above to cover the additional costs of pump outs and fuel. Pump out
facilities can be found at many places along the canals. Details will be found
in the literature on board the boats.
Can we view the boats before booking?
Gladly, we are more than happy to arrange this. Please
contact the office to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Is there central heating and showers?
Hot water comes either from the engine or the diesel
burning central heating which also of course warms the boat. A solid fuel stove
is also fitted to provide a lovely cosy
warmth for those who choose to cruise outside the summer months.
Do you provide car parking?
Secure parking with CCTV coverage is provided, but
please remember parking is at the owners risk.
How do we get to the hire base?
Full directions will be supplied on booking. The
nearest Mainline station is Crewe and we can arrange collection if this helps.
The website address of the marina is www.aqueductmarina.co.uk
Where can we stop overnight?
On the canals you can stop anywhere on the towpath side as
long as this does not obstruct other boaters or their entry and exit through
locks or bridges. British Waterways may impose time limits for mooring but
these are usually not more than 48 hours and then only in popular spots. Please
check for signs indicating this when mooring.
Is bedding provided?
All beds are supplied with mattress protectors, sheets,
pillows, pillow protectors and covers, duvets, duvet covers and blankets.
Can I fish from the boat?
Yes provided the boat is moored. The responsibility to
provide a rod licence remains with the hirer, and is a legal requirement for
those who choose to fish. Further details can be found here http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing/31497.aspx
What happens if we have a problem?
We are only a phone call away. Both boats are covered by
River Canal Rescue, the AA of the waterways. However our boats are well
maintained and breakdowns are very rare.
Finally we realise this list is not exhaustive.
Please ring us if you have any questions. We are a small family run business
whose aim is to provide you with an enjoyable, safe and memorable holiday. We
do not employ a central booking office as we pride ourselves on the quality of
our service; that means talking to our hirers and potential hirers to ensure
they get the most from their holiday.
